Abstract

1,153,435. Sewing machines. JANOME SEWING MACHINE CO. Ltd. 29 June, 1966 [29 June, 1965 (3)], No. 29296/66. Heading D1G. A sewing machine attachment for effecting circular sewing comprises an arm attachable to the presser bar, a disc-holder adjustably carried by the arm, a work-feeding disc rotatably carried by the holder, a lever carried by the arm, a pawl connected with the lever for movement therewith, and a ratchet provided on the disc for engagement by the pawl, the lever being operable 'by the needle bar for causing the pawl to drive the disc. An arm 3 has a vertical flange 32 attachable to the presser bar, and a horizontal flange 31 to which is pivoted at 7 a disc-holding member 2 fixable in adjusted angular position relative to arm 3 by a screw 8. Member 2 comprises a ring 22 journalling a vertical flange 13 formed peripherally of a central aperture 15 in a work-feeding disc 1 having a serrated workengaging under surface. A spring blade 6, secured by screws 62 to flange 31, presses upon the work within aperture 15 and has an index mark 61 co-operating with index marks 25 on ring 22. A lever 4, journalled on a pin 9 fixed in flange 32, is biassed downwardly by a spring 94. A pawl 5, pivoted intermediately on a pin 56 carried by lever 4, is formed at one end with a hollow boss 52 housing a compression spring engaging member 2 to bias the other end 51 of pawl 5 into engagement with a circular ratchet 11 on disc 1. The upper end of lever 4 rests on the needle clamp and is thereby raised by the upward movement of the needle bar against the bias of spring 94, whereby pawl 5 rotates disc 1. Pin 56 enters an aperture in flange 32 to limit the movement of lever 4.
