Abstract
1,032,840. Sewing machines. INDUSTRIE - WERKE KARLSRUHE A.G. April 6,1965 [July 24, 1964], No. 14531/65. Heading D1G. In a sewing machine, the weight of the presser box and the force of a main spring acting thereon can be compensated by a counter spring, whereby only a spring runner attached to the presser foot is effective. A leaf spring 3 acts on a ball 5 to bias the presser box 2 downwards. A rod 6, slidable within a fixed sleeve 11, carries at its lower end a collar 8, and has a screwed upper end which engages a fixed nut 12 and carries a knurled knob 14. A counters spring 8 acts between collar 8 and a member 10 which is rigid in the presser box 2 and prevents the latter from turning. Knob 14 may be turned to move rod 6 areally for varying the upward force exerted by spring 7. For the sewing of light fabrics, spring 7 may be so adjusted that presser bar 2 remains stationary during work feed, when the upward movement of the face dog 19a is opposed only by a spring runner 17 attached to the presser foot 15.
