1332496 Sewing machines UNION SPECIAL MACHINE CO 19 Nov 1970 [21 Nov 1969] 54945/70 Heading D1G A sewing machine presser mechanism cooperating with a drop feed mechanism 30 comprises a presser foot sole 60 and a shank 72 connected by link mechanism 65 hinged to the shank and the sole at an angle 'A' so that the sole moves in a work feeding direction and effects a faster feeding movement of that sole than that of the feed dog during the end of the feeding movement of the dog. The linkage 65 comprises a bell crank lever pivoted on a pin 70 which may be selectively positioned (to provide a chosen angle 'A') in arcuate slots 74 in arms 71 extending rearwardly from shank 72. One arm 66 of the lever is pivoted at 64 to the sole 62, the other arm is engaged by a loop 82 of a torsion spring 78 having its remote end 84 in engagement with a sleeve 86 adjustably secured to a sleeve 75 screwed on to a threaded extension of the pin 70. A stop plate 90 is provided on the shank 72. In a modification, (Figs. 10-13, not shown) the linkage comprises a single armed lever (110) engaged by a flat spring (107) the tension of which may be varied by a screw (108). In a further modification (Figs. 14-17, not shown) the linkage again comprises a bell crank lever, (142) the arm remote from the sole being urged upwardly by a compression spring (153). Presser bars, lifting. The presser bar 32, which is urged downwardly by a spring, is provided with an adjustable nut (38, Fig. 2 not shown) which determines the lowest position of the bar. The, presser bar may be lifted by a knee press (not shown) connected to the bar by lever and link mechanism (43-50). Thread cutting. The presser foot of the second embodiment (Fig. 11 not shown) is provided with a thread cutter (97).
