1390543 Presser device PFAFF INDUSTRIEMASCHINEN GmbH 16 June 1972 [21 June 1971] 28212/72 Heading D1G The presser foot sole 20 pivoted to its shank 19 is provided with a latching means for holding the sole horizontally at the start of the sewing, the said means being unlatched as sewing proceeds. The means comprises a lever 27 pivoted at 26 to the shank and presenting a sloping upper end which engages a stop 36 on the presser bar bushing, when that bar is raised by lever 15 and mechanism 11, 13-18, to rotate the lever against its spring 33 to cause a notch 28, 29 in the other end of lever 27 to engage a pin 31 on the rear of the sole 20 to maintain the latter horizontal against the action of spring 24, the lower edge 28 of the notch being suitably inclined to achieve this. When work is just entered beneath the sole, as shown, the presser bar spring 9 exerts a torque maintaining the contact between pins 31 and edge 28 until the work has entered further, (Fig. 2 not shown) when the feed dog action tilts the presser foot to allow spring 33 to rotate the lever anticlockwise and complete the unlatching.
