Abstract

541,131. Sewing-machines. FAIRWEATHER, W. C. (Singer Manufacturing Co.). Aug. 2, 1940, No. 12510. [Class 112] . The whole chain of stitches connecting successively sewn articles is destroyed by the continued impact of a sharp end tooth 32 on a feed-dog 10 upon the surface of a roller 22 carried on a part 15 pivotally mounted at 20 on the presser-foot shank 13, the presser-foot being carried on the same pivot. The roller 22 is flanged and when a work-piece lies between the roller and the feed-dog impact of the feeddog on the roller is prevented. The cutting or crushing effort can be varied to suit different sewing threads by adjusting a screw abutment 27 of a spring 25 which urges the roller towards the feed-dog.
