[Class 112] In a stitch-through shoe sewing-machine as for example that described in Specification 516,539, the take-up is actuated to impart a gradually increasing strain to the needle thread until the stitch is set and then a gradually decreasing strain while the needle loop remains on the loop-taker and before the thread lock, between the thread measurer and the work, is opened.
