[Class 112] A machine such as described in Specification 285,487, [Class 112], having means for stopping the needle and loop-taker, but not the needlethread take up, in pre-determined positions is provided with a thread lock between the work and the take-up which is closed when the machine is stopped, thereby preventing the final movement of the take-up or the removal of the work-piece from drawing off more needle thread. As in the previous machine, the thread clamp on the supply side of the take-up is opened when the machine is stopped by the upward movement of a lever 122, Fig. 2, and this movement is transmitted through a spring 176 to a lever arm 170 on a shaft 152 and to an arm 148 also fixed on that shaft. The arm 148 closes the thread lock through a spring 164, Fig 4. The lock comprises a fixed member provided by a U-shaped piece 138 secured to two depending arms 134 and a movable member 146 positioned in the U. The member 146 is pivoted on the end of a rod 154 and is free to make slight tilting movements so as to lie evenly on the thread.
