Abstract

567,335. Sewing machines. FAIRWEATHER, W. C. (Singer Manufacturing Co.). Aug. 7, 1943, No. 12787. [Class 112] In a sewing machine used for producing angular or corner seams of chain stitches, means are provided to confine the needle and the thread near the eye between two surfaces 40, 46, Fig. 7, so that when the work is turned through an angle the portion of the thread between the needle and the part 46 (work-limb b) is prevented from wrapping itself around the needle. The machine is described in Specification 550,792. Recesses in the throat plate 2 and feed-dog 23 allow the thread to turn with the work, without undue tension being applied. The looper 8 has a throat 11 and a loop-twisting and spreading, wire 12 for holding the seized and spread needle-thread loop in position for subsequent entrance by the beak 9 of the looper, The throat-plate 2, Fig. 11, has four feed-slots 19 ... 22 through which operate four feed dogs, and a needle-slot 18 which is recessed at 28. The feed-dog has a similar recess 29. The needle-guide 36, having the surface 40, is screwed to the bed-plate 1. The positioning- member 43 having the guide surface 46, is adjustable in a slot 41 under the throat-plate 2, and has a thread cast-off edge 47 for the worklimb b.
