Abstract
115,221. Thompson, W. P., (Union Special Machine Co.). Jan. 15, 1917. Multiple-needle machines; double-loop stitching; work-supports.-Relates to sewing-machines of the type having needles co-operating with threaded loopers and consists in the means for spreading the loops of the under thread for the passage of the needles. The needle hole 69 is provided with an extension in the direction of feed having an inclined face 71 and a shoulder 72. As the work is fed on after a stitch is formed, it carries the loop of needle thread embracing the looper thread into this extension and causes the strands n, n<1> of the needle thread to twist into a plane substantially parallel to the plane of the feed, with the result that the loop l of under thread is moved away from the side of the looper as shown in Fig. 2. The loop l is retained during retraction of the looper by a pin 74 fixed on the under side of the throat plate, which is cut away at 73 to provide clearance for the looper thread.
