Abstract

397,043. Sewing-machines. FAIRWEATHER, W. C., 65, Chancery Lane, London.-(Singer Manufacturing Co. ; Elizabeth, New Jersey, U.S.A.) March 7, 1933, No. 6855. [Class 112.] A device for zig-zag sewing, in which the work is moved laterally by a presser foot 16, comprises an oscillating member 18 pivoted to an extension on the presser bar and a sliding bar 13 carrying the presser foot. The member 18 is oscillated by a pawl 35 on the needle-bar engaging a ratchet wheel 28 and rotating a cam 26 which engages projections 25 on the member 18. An extension 19 engages between an eccentric 21 and a screw 22 and moves the sliding bar 13. The lateral movement of the bar is regulated by the eccentric. For circular work a centring pin 54 is attached to the sliding bar 13. The work is pierced at the centre of curvature by the point 54 and is drawn over the pin until it is held on the vertical part 55. The work is then rotated by the under feed dogs 52. Sewing-machine needles.-The point 50 of the needle is in alignment with the front edge and is sharply tapered.
