393,898. Sewing-machines. FAIRWEATHER, W. C., 65, Chancery Lane, London.-(Singer Manufacturing Co. ; Elizabeth, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Jan. 25, 1933, No. 2382. [Class 112.] A zig-zag-stitching machine comprises a reciprocating throat plate 26 and a stationary throat plate 48 which carries a stitch finger 49. In the operation of the machine, the stitch to the left of the machine being completed, the needle, looper and throat plate 26 move to the right of the line of feed and the needle descends on the right of the finger 49. The looper then seizes the loop and passes it through the loop previously formed. Before the needle descends again the needle looper and throat plate 26 move to the left and the throat plate 26 bends the loop under the finger 49 so that the needle can pass through it. The finger is thinner than the throat plate 48 to provide a clearance for the loop. The throat plate 26 is reciprocated by a main shaft driven cam 40 and a lever 36, 38 pivoted at 37.
