Abstract
362,840. Tufting-machines. FAIRWEATHER, W., 65, Chancery Lane, London. - (Singer Manufacturing Co. ; Elizabeth, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Nov. 7, 1930, No. 28513/31. Divided on 362,615. [Class 112.] The feed-foot of a hook-needle tufting-machine engages the upper face of the fabric at one side of the thread loops. The machine is similar to that described in Specification 362,615. Specification 362,616 is referred to. Needles, vibrating laterally feed by needles; feed by devices engaging the upper surface of the work.- The needle-bar 9 is journalled for reciprocation in a vibrating frame 12 which also carries the feedbar 26. The frame 12 is oscillated about a pivot 13 by a rockshaft which is operated from the main shaft by an eccentric. The work is fed by the needle and a foot 24 which engages the upper surface of the work and is carried by the reciprocating feed bar 26. The feed foot, Fig. 9, is serrated on its lower surface and is slotted at 107 to clear the needle and at 108 to clear the thread. In front of the needle the feed foot is widened to provide a guide surface 110 for the loops. The presser foot 46 and feeding foot 24 are operated to engage the work alternately by a lever 53.
