[Class 112] In a machine for stitching strawplait, having two needles 20 reciprocating from below the work, one being eyed and the other tailed, which co-operate with loopers 35, 36 carried upon a slide frame 34 mounted above the work in the manner described in Specification 160,920, [Class 112], a lightly loaded presserfoot is mounted on the machine head and has a limited movement independent of the slide frame. The slide frame is pressed downwards by a strong spring and its position, through suitable linkages, determines the stroke of the needles. The needle bar 18 is driven by a crank and pitman 6, 7 and a lever 9. The lever 9 passes slidingly through a pivot block 13, which is mounted in guides parallel with the lever 9 in its lowest position and which is moved in those guides in accordance with the position of the looper-supporting slide frame 34 by connections 25-33. A strong spring 61, through the same connections, holds a lug 60 on the slide frame against a face cam stop 57. The presser-foot spring is a wire 52 anchored in the frame part 53 and depressed by a screw 55. A shoulder on the presser-foot lies under the lower edge of the slide frame so that when the presser-foot is manually lifted the slide frame and loopers are also lifted.
