[Class 112] An imitation moccasin seam is produced in a sewing-machine by forming a ridge or bead in the material, maintaining it by a seam, and scoring the upper side of the ridge. In the machine shown, the work is fed by a dog 16 and feed-foot 17, and the ridge is formed by a finger 37 on the throatplate in co-operation with a #-shaped presser-foot 18 ; the ridge is secured by a seam formed by a pair of needles 10 operating on opposite sides of the ridge and co-operating with a single rotary shuttle 11, and is scored by a knife 38 carried by a bar 42. The throat-plate has a transverse slot to receive the needles, and the presser-foot 18 has needle-holes in its upper part merging into grooves on the inner sides of its limbs ; the feed-foot 17 is forked to engage the work at the sides of the presser-foot 18. The presserbar 27 and the feed-bar 20 are actuated bv a return crank 29 on the needledriving crank-disc 7 through a link 28 and a lever 23 which is pivoted to the feed-bar and to a lug 25 on the presser-bar ; the presser-foot and feedfoot are thus raised alternately in the known manner. The return motion of the feed-foot is produced by a spring 30 when the foot is raised, this motion being limited by a bracket 31 on the presser-bar. The knife-bar 42 is guided in the machine frame and by a bracket 43 on the presser-bar, and is pressed downwards by a spring 46 so that the knife 38 constantly engages the work through a slot in the top of the presserfoot 18 ; the depth of the score made by the knife is determined by a stopcollar 45 on the knife-bar. The presserlifting lever 54, acting on a lug 53 on the presser-bar, engages a lug 52 on a member 49, carried by a collar slidable on the presserbar, which lifts the knife-bar 42 by means of a lug 48 and releases the thread tension by means shown in Fig. 1.
