524,148. Sewing-machines BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., (United Shoe Machinery Corporation). Jan. 23, 1939, No. 2207. [Class 112] In a hook-needle chain-stitch shoe inseam sewing-machine the take-up 12 co-operates with a thread tension device 178 arranged to increase the tension on the thread gradually, during the formation of each stitch, from a relatively small value to a maximum value as the take-up reaches the limit of its thread tightening movement. The tension wheel is braked by a block 182 pivotally mounted on one arm 42 of a lever and a tensioning spring 46 is interposed between an adjusting screw on another arm 54 and a pin 48 on the take-up lever 12.
