703,934. Sewing-machine needles. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO:, Ltd. (United Shoe Machinery Corporation). May 21, 1952 [May 22, 1951], No. 11882/51. Class 112 A curved hooked needle for a shoe-sewing machine, shown as viewed from the inside of the curve, has a sharpened point or edge 42 offset towards the side opposite the hook, so that less bending. strain is thrown on the portion of reduced crosssection. The needle shown has a straight thread groove 28 extending from the hook on the inside to receive the thread-limb extending from the previous stitch to keep it from crossing the thread-limb extending from the looper, which limb is accommodated in a helical groove 30 extending from the other side of the hook to prevent it from slipping off the needle point and out of the hook.
