Abstract

1,188,229. Sewing. SINGER CO. 9 Oct., 1968 [12 Oct., 1967], No. 47803/68. Heading D1G. A pivoted regulator block 35 engages a slide block 41 on a pitman 27 which drives the feed dog in a sewing machine and the block 35 can be adjusted manually by a lever 43 to adjust the stitch length and direction of feed or periodically varied by disconnection of the manual control and connection with a driving arrangement derived from the cam 70 to alternately feed the work in forward and reverse directions, the feed in the forward direction being preferably three times as much as that in the reverse direction. A clutch pin 60 is provided the arm 58 of which is normally located in a slot 51 of a pivoted block 44 thus connecting the regulator block 35 with the manual stitch control lever 43. When a button 75 is pressed and locked in position the arm 58 locates in a slot 67 of a drive arm 63 operated by the cam 70 and is held there by a curved plate 76 the regulator block 35 is then driven from the cam 70 to produce alternate forward and reverse feed. The movement of the bar 60 to engage slot 67 releases the arm 58 from slot 51 and so the manual control is disconnected until the button 75 is again operated to return to its outward position under the action of springs 77.
