1382886 Presser mechanism SINGER CO 7 April 1972 [14 April 1971] 16053/72 Heading D1G A presser device comprises a first presser foot 60 and a work holding foot, or dog, 70 the latter being movable alternately into and out of work engagement and between extremes of movement along the feed direction defined by abutments 79, 80, means comprising springs 77, 78 returning the foot 70, when raised, to a position intermediate the extremes. The device thus functions irrespective of the direction of feed selected by the stitch length &c, adjuster (42 Fig. 1 not shown) for the lower feed dog mechanism. The first presser foot 60 is pivoted to a bracket 62 clamped to a presser bar 15, the bracket presenting shouldered screws 74 engaging two slots 73 (one shown). On a slide plate 72 carrying dog 70 on a spring arm 71. Bracket 62 also supports the pivots 91, 97 of interengaginig levers 90, 96 the latter being operated by the needle bar clamp 18 to cause roller 93 on the first lever to press dog 70 against the work W and to lift the presser bar 15 and foot 60 when the needle rises and the feed dog (31) moves with that work. A pin 76 on slide plate 72 projects into a slot 75 in bracket 62 between the springs 77, 78 accommodated therein to allow the dog 70 to move in the feeding direction as the work moves and to return the dog to its intermediate position when the foot rises from the work.
