Abstract
888,399. Sewing machines. NECCHI S.p.A. April 1, 1959 [April 11, 1958], No. 11028/59. Class 112 [Also in Group XXV] Means for locking a sewing machine needle within a groove in the needle bar comprise a member displaceable transversely of the groove and formed with a sloping surface adjacent thereto, and spring means adapted to urge the member in a direction such that the sloping surface presses the needle against a wall of the groove with wedge action. A support member 5, encircling the needle bar 1, is fixed thereto by a screw 4<SP>1</SP>. A cylindrical pin 12, slidable in aligned transverse recesses provided in the support member and needle bar, is formed with a frusto-conical surface 13. A spring 14 biases pin 12 axially to engage the thicker end of surface 13 with the needle 7 for urging a flat surface on the latter against a corresponding surface in a needle-receiving groove 6 formed in the needle bar. A knob 15 on pin 12 may be pressed inwardly to release the needle, when return movement of the pin is limited by the engagement of a washer 17 on the latter with the member 5.
