862,236. Treating wood. COBRA (WOOD TREATMENT) Ltd. Nov. 18, 1958 [June 14, 1958], No. 19098/58. Class 140. An appliance for injecting materials such as antiseptic, colouring or fireproofing liquids into wood, comprises a cylinder for the material to be injected, a piston in the cylinder, and holders for two needles adapted to be fed from the cylinder upon penetration of the wood by the needles and operation of the piston by its contact with the wood surface. As shown, a cylinder 6 with a liner 8, closed by a screw-cap 7 at one end and having at the other a piston 9 with a domed cap 9a is movable into the cylinder against a spring 10 (and shown in its innermost position). A pair of ports such as 16, lead to a pair of passages such as 18 into each of which is screwed an injection needle 21. A supply port 22 connected to a reservoir 23 opens into the cylinder opposite the ports 16 at a level at which it is closed by the piston in the inward position shown. The piston is guided, and adjustably limited on its out-stroke, by an external rod slidable in lugs on the cylinder and carrying a terminal stop-nut. The appliance can be secured, for example by a chain, to a pole or the like and a lever applied to the cap 7 to press the needles into the wood, the piston being pressed in by contact with the wood surface to effect the injection.
