Abstract
638,814. Hypodermic administering of solids. MASCALL SON & CO., Ltd., G. S. and BOTHWELL, W. A. July 14, 1948, No. 18921. [Class 81(ii)] A device for injecting pellets comprises a spring-pressed plunger for ejecting the pellets through a hypodermic needle, a lateral slot in the needle holder through which pellets may be inserted and a spring-pressed sleeve which normally maintains the aperture closed. In the form described the needle 16 is screwed into the needle holder 13 which in turn is held in a barrel 10. When a pellet is to be inserted the sleeve 17 is pressed back against its spring 18 until an aperture 173 is aligned with a recess 132, through which the pellet can fall into the central bore. Release of the sleeve 17 now retains the pellet inside the device. The plunger 14 is pressed forwards against the spring 15 so that it pushes the pellet out of the needle. When the instrument is not in use the needle is unscrewed from the position shown and screwed into the suitably shaped outer end of the plunger rod 141. Specification 472;560 is referred to.
