786,931. Hypodermic syringes. YOCHEM, D. E. Dec. 28, 1955 [Jan. 10, 1955], No. 37092/55. Class 81 (2). A hypodermic syringe has a gauge including an apertured guide 33 mounted on the barrel, a gauge member 31 mounted on the plunger 21 and passing through the guide opening 34 and a stop member 44 which is adjustable along the gauge member 31 to predetermine the amount of liquid drawn into the syringe on withdrawal of the plunger 21. The guide arm 33 is carried by a clasp 30 mounted on the syringe barrel 20 so that it abuts a flange 25 at the rear end of the barrel 20. The gauge bar 31 is secured to the head of the plunger 21 by a clasp 41 and passes through the opening 34 in the arm 33. A slot 35 in the arm 33 enables the bar 31 to be removed from or inserted into the opening 34 by rotating the plunger 21. The stop member 44 is slidable on the bar 31 and is secured in any desired position by a screw 46. Retraction of the plunger 21 is limited by the engagement of the stop member 44 with the arm 33. A compression spring (not shown) may be provided on the bar 31 between the stop member 44 and the arm 33. During an injection, the plunger is retracted against the spring to indicate whether the syringe needle has penetrated a blood vessel.
