780,008. Hypodermic injection devices. PALMER, C. J. S. Aug. 8, 1955 [May 6, 1954], No. 13207/54. Class 81. (2). An injection device comprises a handle having a guideway in which a holder for a hypodermic syringe is longitudinally movable, an abutment, with a central notch for the passage of a hypodermic needle, projecting from one end of the guideway and inclined away from the holder, spring means to urge the holder towards the abutment and means for holding the holder in retracted position. An abutment 5, having a notch for the passage of a hypodermic needle 25 of a syringe 3, is fixed to a plug 11 which is slidable in one end of the guideway 1 and is secured by a screw 13 projecting through a slot 12 in the guideway 1. A syringe holder 4 slidable in the guideway 1 contains a tension spring 16 connected at one end to the front end of the syringe holder 4 and at the other end to a pin 15 fixed in the guideway 1. The syringe holder 4 is retracted against the spring 16 by a pin 17 extending through slots 18 in the guideway 1 and holes in the holder 4 and is held in retracted position by the engagement of a seat 22 on a spring-pressed trigger 20. In use the abutment 5 is placed against the skin and on release of the trigger 20 the syringe 3 is moved forward by the spring 16 so that the hypodermic needle 25 passes through the notch in the abutment 5 and pierces the skin. The injection is then made by the plunger 26.
