Abstract

987,889. Hypodermic syringes. ASTRA APOTEKARNES KEMISKA FABRIKER A.B. March 7, 1962 [March 9, 1961], No. 8846/62. Heading A5R. A hypodermic syringe comprises a syringe body and an ampoule-needle unit secured therein, the syringe body having a side opening 27 at the front end and a main opening in its side, for receiving the ampoule-needle unit, and a non-detachable piston stem 23, and the ampouleneedle unit having a needle holder 15 which is displaceable so that the needle 17 may be caused to pierce the ampoule 11. The ampoule comprises a resilient plastic bellows 11, having a rear projection 12 for engagement with the piston, or a cartridge (Fig. 2, not shown),having a closed but pierceable front wall and a rear piston stopper. The needle holder 15 is displaceable in an annular recess in an endpiece or front wall of the ampoule, to which it is normally secured by corresponding projections and grooves, so that the needle does not pierce the ampoule. The ampoule needle unit is inserted in the syringe body through the side and main openings of the syringe body, which has means which engage a peripheral recess 14 in the ampoule to secure the ampoule in the syringe body. The ampoule may be secured in the syringe body by a bayonet connection (not shown).
