Abstract

1,217,152. Surgical syringes &c. A. BANE. 5 March, 1968 [14 March, 1967; 23 June, 1967], Nos. 11983/67 and 29170/67. Heading A5R. A syringe, eye-dropper or the like, in which a cannula is forced into a sealed flexible container to deliver or collect a liquid therein, comprises (referring to Fig. 1) a flexible container 1 having a plug 3 at one end carrying an external screw thread 4, on to which fits the internal screw thread of the member 5 carrying the needle 6. A cover 8 fits over the needle and carrying member and abuts against a shoulder 10 at the base of the container. The cover is a friction fit on a part of the member 5 having longitudinal serrations 7, but both the cover 8 and the members 5 are slightly tapered and/or the cover includes a wider section 11 so that, when the cover 8 is rotated, the needle-carrying member moves inwardly along the screw thread towards the container until the needle pierces the plug 3, by which time the cover and member 5 have disengaged and the cover can be removed. The eye-dropper shown in Fig. 3 functions similarly.
