Abstract

924,734. Hypodermic syringes. F. UNDER. Aug. 25, 1959 [Sept. 3, 1958], No. 28949/59. Class 81 (2). In combination with a hypodermic syringe, a device for supporting the syringe and projecting the needle comprises tubular telescopic members 5, 8 which are locked in extended position with one member attached to the forward end of the syringe, so that, when the other member 8 contacts the body and the syringe is pressed towards the body with sufficient force, the members are suddenly unlocked and telescope one within the other. The inner member 5 is secured to the syringe by screw threads 4, a snap device or interengaging conical parts (not shown). The inner member has spring fingers 6 which engage recesses 9 in the outer member to lock the device in extended position. Alternatively, the members may be synthetic plastic and have interengaging conical surfaces (not shown) which frictionally hold the device in extended position and are deformed by the application of pressure to release the lock. The length of the device and thus the depth of penetration of the needle is determined by an adjustable extension 10 threaded on the outer member.
