Abstract

904,635. Surgical injection equipment. ROSS, R. S. June 20, 1961 [March 28, 1960], No. 10820/60. Class 81 (2). A hypodermic needle assembly, primarily for use in transfusion, comprises the hollow needle itself 1, on a hub 4, within which a tubular member 5, attached to a second hub 6, is slidable, this being slit at its inner end so that when clear of the needle 1 fingers 9, so formed, spring outwards. When used, the inner member is first withdrawn into the needle 1 by drawing back the hub 6, and an infusion tube is connected to the adapter 7. The needle is then inserted into a vein and the hub 6 pushed forward so that the fingers 9 open out and distend the vein. In an alternative form, the inner member is made from solid rod, the diameter of which is sufficiently less than that of the bore of the needle to allow free passage of the liquid being administered.
