Abstract

727,348. Hypodermic syringes. BICKFORD & SONS, Ltd., A. M. Jan. 15, 1953 [Jan. 24, 1952], No. 1254/53. Class 81 (2). A syringe having a main barrel 1 which is filled with medicament between a plunger and a hollow needle 4 is provided with a needle cover 5 open at both ends one of which is adapted to engage the end of the barrel 1 from which the needle 4 projects and the other end of which is closed by a plug 8. The plug 8 is provided with a stilet 9 of nylon or similar material for inserting into the needle 4 when the plug 8 is fitted into a socket 7 in the needle cover 5. Alternatively, the plug (not shown) may be of rubber or similar material and may be provided with a hole for receiving the tip of the needle 4. The syringe is filled by injecting medicament through the needle 4. The barrel 1 is fitted with finger grips 2. In use the needle cover 5 serves as a push rod for the plunger. The needle 4 may be heat-sealed into the barrel 1 if the latter is moulded from a thermo-plastic substance.
