Abstract

816,812. Sewing machines. UNION SPECIAL MASCHINENFABRIK G.m.b.H. July 24, 1957 [July 31, 1956], No. 23391/57. Addition to 784,110. Class 112 The portable, sackclasing sewing machine of the parent Specification is provided with a feeler adapted to rise and fall under the influence of work pieces fed to the stitch-forming means, so as to control a switch for starting and stopping the driving motor when a work piece enters and leaves the machine. A motor 1, provided with a carrying handle 4, is detachably connected by a flange 3 to the sewing machine casing 2 containing a threaded looper 8 and a curved sewing needle 7 carried by an oscillating arm 9 journalled on a shaft 10. An arm 11 has a bridge piece 14 provided with conical pivots 15, 16 journalled in the ends of draft 10. One end of arm 11 carries a feeler 12 the work-contacting face of which is formed with parallel ribs 12a which normally lie within corresponding slots 13a in the stitch plate 13. The other end of arm 11 carries a pin 17 which abuts the button 19 of a switch 20 mounted on the handle 4 and adapted to control the motor 1. The button 5 of the usual starting switch is permanently depressed by a leaf spring 6. A work piece in moving towards the needle raises the feleer 12, whereby pin 17 closes switch 20 to start the motor, the latter stopping automatically when the work piece leaves the stitch plate and the feeler resumes its normal position. The feeler has a V-shaped, upwardly-bent end 12b adapted to guard the operator's hand from contact with the stitch-forming means.
