Abstract

1,029,258. Sewing machines. SINGER CO. March 6, 1965, No. 9598/65. Heading D1G. Bobbin-winding means in a sewing machine comprise an elongated arm 17 pivoted at its inner end about a stud 22 on a shelf 18 within the machine frame 11. A bracket 28, provided on the outer end of arm 17, journals a spindle 38 having a bobbinreceiving portion 43 projecting through a slot 32 in frame 11 and a slot 44 in a panel 34 secured to frame 11 by screws 35. The inner end of spindle 38 carries a rubber-tyred wheel 40. A serrated knob 31 on bracket 28 projects through slot 32 and a slot 33 in panel 34, and may be actuated for swinging arm 17 to engage wheel 40 with an adjacent face 41 of a driven hand wheel 14. Arm 17 is held in operative or inoperate position by a spring washer 26 on stud 22. The length of arm 17 is such that the outer end of knob 31 remains at a substantially constant distance from the outer surface of frame 11. The arm shaft 13 may be disengaged from hand wheel 14, during bobbin winding, by a clutch 47.
