Abstract
860,491. Sewing machines. TRUBENISED (GREAT BRITAIN) Ltd. Sept. 17, 1959 [June 17, 1958], No. 19337/58. Class 112 In a sewing machine in which a work holder is guided along a predetermined path to produce a line of stitching along the margin of the work projecting beyond the work holder, said margin passes between a pair of stationery members having aligned apertures for the passage of the needle and spaced apart in the direction of needle movement at such a distance as to allow the work to pass freely while holding the work against movement in the direction of needle movement. As shown, the work 4 is clamped between work holder plates 1 and 2, hinged together at 3 and pressed together by a spring 5. The work holder is connected temporarily by means 11 to automatic guide means in the sewing machine. The work support of the latter is formed with an annular boss 8 which surrounds the needle 7 and projects upwardly by a distance equal to the thickness of the lower plate 2. A presser foot 9 engages if the edge of the upper plate 1, and a member 10 screwed therein has an annular boss 10<SP>1</SP> which surrounds the needle and is adjusted to allow the work to pass freely but to hold the work against vertical movement. Specifications 689,778, 709,621, 736,129 and 745,474 are referred to.
