A sewing-machine needle for use in seaming fabrics made of synthetic fibres is formed above the eye 3 with a single sharp edge 5. The sharp edge is formed by two bevels which join the remainder of the needle without forming a cutting edge. The needle is arranged in the sewing-machine with the sharp edge directed upstream in relation to the direction of feed of the work (shown by the arrow).
