Abstract

592,646. Sewing-machines. DEHN, F. B. (Lever Bias Machine Corporation). May 23, 1945, No. 12915. [Class 112] Feeding long lengths of fabric; presser-feet.- Material is fed solely by pull-off means acting at a distance from the sewing-point, and the pressure-foot is adapted to engage the material constantly but with varying pressure; the feed pull-off acts continuously, and the material passes over a resilient deflecting device between the sewing-point and the pull-off to provide a light which can be taken by the pull-off to avoid undue tension of the material while it is held stationary by the pressure-foot, during that part of the stretching cycle when the needle is in the work. In the form shown, the spring- pressed presser-bar 29 carries a foot portion 34 in which slide pins 36 on a werk-engaging portion or portions 35, the latter being constantly pressed against the work by light springs surrounding the pins 36 between the parts 34, 35 or, in a modification, by weights on the top of the pins 36. The deflecting device comprises an arm arranged on the bed of the machine to press the work resiliently upwards. Specification 575,198 is referred to.
