860,142. Sewing machines. PFAFF A. G., G. M. Aug. 8, 1958 [Aug. 10, 1957], No. 25449/58. Class 112 Stitch forming, presser feet. In a sewing machine a thread take-up d<SP>11</SP> is interposed between the needle g and the work, and a thread guide c is so positioned that the thread on being tightened by the take-up passes downwardly through the eye g<SP>1</SP> of the needle without any significant change of direction. The needle bar b and take-up lever d<SP>11</SP> are both driven from crank means f on the arm shaft of the machine. Thread h passes from a spool i, over a leaf spring e, through a tensioner a and guide b<SP>1</SP> both of which are mounted on the needle bar, through the needle eye and around the guide c on its way to the take-up arm d<SP>11</SP>. Guide c is carried by a lug p fixed to the presser foot m, and may be either a roller or a pin. The take-up may alternatively be mounted on the presser bar. It is stated that with the arrangement shown it is possible to operate with a larger thread loop h<SP>1</SP> over the take-up, to make possible the use of a large diameter looptakes and a bobbin of high thread capacity.
