[Class 112] The needle thread for a loop stitch machine is tensioned by devices carried by a plate 26 mounted on the needle bar 10; they include a flexible lead-in tube 16 clamped in blocks 21, a leaf spring 28 pressed on to a plate 24 and a cylinder 36 made of glass about which the thread is wrapped for at least one complete turn. The pressure of the leaf spring is adjusted by a screw 34. In a multiple-needle machine. the tension devices for all the threads are carried by one plate 26. Similar devices may be applied to looper threads. In a modification, the tension devices may comprise a plurality of studs or other projections round which the thread is wrapped in a suitable pattern; they may be mounted on a fixed support instead of on the needle-bar. A check spring may be provided to act on the thread adjacent to the upper end of the tube 16. Specification 546,893 is referred to.
