Abstract
659,183. Sewing-machines. WINTERHOFF, W. Feb. 11, 1949, No. 3761. Convention date, Feb. 11, 1948. [Class 112] Channelling; feed, perforating - devices A channelling knife in an awl-feed leather-sewing machine is mounted to move laterally with the awl. In the arrangement shown. the arcuate awl 12 is clamped to a carrier 9 oscillating and sliding on a spindle 6 fixed in the machine frame, and the knife 18, acting on the opposite side of the work through a slot in the work support 33, is attached to a carrier 15 fitting over the hub of the awl-carrier 9 and adjustably secured thereto by a screw and slot 16, the position of adjustment being indicated on a scale 20 on the awlcarrier. The hub of the awl-carrier is located axially in a boss on the feedcarriage, which reciprocated by a cam lever linked to the carriage and engaging an adjustable stop screw to vary the feed. A collar on the spindle 6 limits movement of the awl-carrier in one direction. The awl is clamped to the carrier by a plate with a screw 10, and abuts on a pin 13 which also prevents rotation of the plate.
