[Class 112] A tufting attachment capable of being fitted to the under part of the base plate of a sewing machine has a loop-forming member oscillated from the machine shaft, and either an oscillating cutting knife operated by the same shaft but supported independently of the looper, or a stationary knife adjustable relative to the looper. A central shaft E under the base plate a is actuated from the main sewing-machine shaft. Bearings 1 and 3 attached to the base plate support a shaft 6 with a forked member 7 engaging an eccentric 9 on the shaft E, by which the shaft 6 is rocked. A block 15 is adjustably carried on a collar 10 on the shaft 6. The shank of the loop-forming hook 17 is secured to the block 15. A lever 20 is pivoted to the member 3 on a bolt 21. The outer end of the lever is forked to engage a roller on an arm 28 attached to the shaft 6, whereby the lever 20 is rocked. The inner end of the lever carries the loopcutting knife 31. The knife is adjustably yieldingly held against the hook 17 by a spring 23. The knife can be adjusted vertically in its clamp. In the form shown in Fig. 7, the knife 31<1> is flexible and stationary, and is adjustably mounted in a holder 34 on the bearing stirrup 3. A screw 43 presses the knife against the hook member.
