Abstract

1,017,030. Tufting machines. SINGER CO. Dec. 7, 1964 [Dec. 9, 1963], No. 49632/64. Heading D1G. Loop-cutting means in a tufting machine comprise a loop-seizing hook having a cutting edge, a knife blade biased against the hook, and means for introducing air under pressure between the opposed surfaces of the hook and blade for reducing friction therebetween. A loop-seizing hook 17, having a cutting edge 21, is secured in a bracket 12 carried by an oscillating shaft 13. A knife blade 36, having a cutting edge 38, is formed with a lug 37 removably received in an aperture formed in an arm 34. The latter is rigid with one end of a rod 31 which is pivoted in a bracket 27 carried by an oscillating shaft 29, and which is formed at its other end with a crank pin 40. A duct 41 in bracket 27 is connected to a compressed air line 43, and contains a piston 42 co-acting with crank pin 40 to bias blade 36 against hook 17. A duct 25 in hook 17 is connected to a compressed air line 26, and opens in the face of hook 17 opposed to blade 36.
