Abstract
661,379. Reciprocating pumps for dispensing measured quantities. HEIDE, H. C. (Cozzoli, F. J.). April 28, 1948. No. 11701/48. Class 102 (i). In a reciprocating pump for dispensing measured quantities, e.g. filling ampoules, etc. with pharmaceutical preparations, the pump plunger 20 is connected to reciprocating members 35, 36 carrying a roller 50 engaging a curved lever 51 oscillated by a crank 55 and connecting rod 57 and pivoted at 52 on a member 53 pivoted on the shaft 54 driven from an electric motor 61 through a variable friction drive 62. The amount delivered is varied by turning the member 53 about the shaft 54 by means of lever 85 so that the plunger 20 always moves to a constant point in its delivery stroke and the end of the suction stroke is varied. The liquid to be dispensed is drawn through valve 24 and delivered through valve 26 to the spout 28. To prevent drip at the spout, a secondary piston 22 is permitted to retract a small amount by the spring 32 at the beginning of the suction stroke of the piston 20. The upward stroke of the piston 20 is limited by a stop 97 that is adjusted by a micrometer 95. Small misalignment of the adjustment of the stop 97 and the setting of the lever 51 are compensated for by permitting the two parts 35, 36 to have limited movement against the spring 39 to an extent limited by the nut 38.
