Abstract

A nickel-base alloy has the following composition : C 0.75-2.5 per cent; Sn 1.0-6.0 per cent; Mg 0.03-0.25 per cent; Si 0.5-4.0 per cent; Mn 0.5-4.0 per cent; Ni, and impurities, the balance. The alloy may contain one or more of the following elements provided that the Ni content of the alloy does not fall below 70 per cent; Fe up to 10 per cent; Co up to 5 per cent; Cu up to 10 per cent; Cr up to 5 per cent; Zn up to 3 per cent and Pb up to 1 per cent. In making the alloy the Ni and C may be melted, a part of the Si is then added, e.g. as ferrosilicon, the Mg is added, e.g. as an alloy with Ni, and the remainder of the Si is then added. The alloy may be used to cast pump and cylinder liners, pump housings, pistons, piston rings, impellers, bushings and bearings.
