658,364. Preventing corrosion. HUGHES & CO., Ltd., F. A. July 7, 1949, No. 17977. [Class 123(i)] An anode for the cathodic protection of metal structures, such as underground iron pipes, comprises a block 1 of, for example, magnesium or magnesium base alloy and a flat iron or steel rod or strip 2 which is embedded in said block with an end projecting into an end recess 3 in the latter. The projecting end of the strip 2 is provided with a bolt 7 for securing a connecting wire 8 thereto, and the anode is completed by a bituminous &c. substance 9 which is poured into the recess 3 to fill same and cover the bolt 7 and free end of the wire 8. Appropriate dimensions for the block 1 and 2 are specified.
