Abstract

831,660. Preventing corrosion. HUGHES & CO. Ltd., F. A. Jan. 13, 1958 [Feb. 8, 1957], No. 4382/57. Class 123(1) A sacrificial anode for protecting metal structures against corrosion consists of a cylindrical block 12 of magnesium into which is cast a tubular steel core 17 closed by a cap 11. The external diameter of the core is from “ to # that of the anode. The core carries two flat, perforated strips 14 also embedded in the anode material. The anode is supported on a tubular spigot 17 bolted or welded to the metal structure to be protected which may be, for example, the interior surface of a tank of an oil-tanker ship. The spigot 17 may be filled with concrete 28 to prevent ingress of oil. The core and spigot are connected by a threaded sleeve 22 so that replacement of a consumed anode is facilitated.
