Abstract

657,255. Oil-break switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 21, 1949, No. 1753. [Class 38(v)] The tank 1 of an oil-immersed circuitbreaker has an outwardly dished bottom 2 welded thereto and having an aperture normally closed by a soft sheet copper disc 3 which is blown out on excessive pressure arising within the tank due to a fault. The aperture is such that the entire oil content can escape into a sump (not shown) containing pebbles within a few cycles of the occurrence of the fault. The disc 3 is inwardly-dished and clamped between two rings 4, 6, so as to form an oil-tight joint, with or without the use of a gasket.
