Abstract
532,034. Switch contacts; oil-break switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 12, 1939, No. 23309. Convention date, Aug. 13, 1938. [Class 38 (v)] In order to prevent rebound and consequent arcing when closing the contacts of oil or other heavy-current switches, without however impairing the closing-shock absorbing capabilities of the contact-springs, two or more parallel - connected (arcing) contacts, as 7, 8, are provided with control springs 10, 11 having different natural periods of vibration so that when one tends to rebound, the other is in engagement with its moving contact 13 or 14. Instead of making one spring heavier, 11, as shown, similar springs may be employed, in which case they are secured to their contacts 7, 8 and the latter have different masses. The resilient contacts may both be mounted on the movable bridge-member 16, or one on 16 and one on the fixed structure. The main contacts are shown at 5, 6 behind the arcing-contacts.
