Abstract
556,185. Switch contacts. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 30, 1942. No. 5843. Convention date, May 1, 1941. [Class 38 (v)] When the movable contact member 15 (shown as the bridging member of a conventional oilswitch) is raised, the arcing surface 16 thereof engages and rotates the member 18 about pivot 17, so moving the part 18b clear of back stop 23 and towards the cooperating surface 15. In the position when both surfaces 18a, 18b engage member 15, the slot 19 is inclined, so that further upward movement of 15 causes the member 18 to wipe along it. In the fully-closed position, spring 21 is deflected somewhat from the vertical, and acts on 18b with more force than on 18a, the force being supplemented by the electrodynamic action of the current loops. There may be a row of members 18 on pivot 17, in which case the springs 21 are arranged, as in Specification 532,034, to have different natural periods of vibration.
