Abstract
535,799. Gas-blast switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and GARRARD, C. J. O. Dec. 8, 1939, No. 31809. [Class 38 (v)] The movable contacts 1, 3 of a switch having a pair of series-connected breaks are simultaneously separated by fluid pressure admitted at 17, the are formed between 1 and the cooperating nozzle contact 2 being interrupted by the shunting resistance (or impedance) 18, which is in series with, and interrupts, that between the contacts 3, 4. A series isolating switch, and a shunting switch for normally carrying the current, may also be provided. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the two breaks are coaxial and the movable contacts engage opposite ends of a common fixed contact, one of the breaks being shunted by a resistance.
