Abstract

441,734. Liquid - blast switches. FLURSCHEIM, C. H., Rushmoor, Fleet, Hampshire, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Dec. 6, 1934, No. 35120. [Class 38 (v)] A cross-jet, liquid - immersed, circuit-breaker has means whereby both an impulse jet and an arc-generated jet are produced across the path of the movable contact in breaking circuit, the impulse and arc-generated jets being effective for breaking small and large currents, respectively. The liquid may be oil or carbon tetrachloride. In a single-break switch as described in Specification 435,143, the arc drawn on separation of the contact 6 from contact 7 produces pressure in space 11 to drive liquid through a passage 12 across one or more passages 9, and simultaneously an impulse jet is forced from space 14 through passage 13 and across passages 8, the passages 8, 9 being separated by partition 10 and having either separate outlets or a common outlet 15, as shown. The impulse jet may be produced by the mechanism described in Specifications 435,143 and 435,419.
