Abstract

542,920. Gas-blast switches. REYROLLE & CO., Ltd., A., AMER, D. F., and WEBB, W. H. June 17, 1940, Nos. 312/42 and 313/42, (both divided out of 542,728). Drawings to Specification. [Class 38 (v)] A gas-blast switch comprises arc-initiating contacts by whose separation the arc is initially formed, a metal casing surrounding such contacts, and means whereby a blast of deionizing gas is caused to flow from such casing through a fixed nozzle and acts to transfer the arc from the arc-initiating, contacts to fixed arcing contacts and to assist in extinguishing the arc which when transferred extends through the nozzle, the separating movement of the arcinitating contacts being such that the movable contact is withdrawn through the metal wall of the casing into a recess behind such wall. The invention is illustrated in its application to Figs. 1-3 of Specification 542,728. The Specification also describes an embodiment using two nozzles and generally similar to that shown in Fig. 1 of Specification 542,722.
