Abstract

438,577. Liquid - break switches. SIEMENS - SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.- GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. May 23, 1935, No. 15074. Convention date, May 24, 1934. [Class 38 (v)] A power switch working on the expansion principle comprises an insulating chamber 1 containing the fixed contact 2 and liquid, the level of which is shown at 14, which chamber is connected by a hollow insulator 12 with a housing 6 for the operating gear of the movable pin contact 9,whereby the interior spaces of the housing 6 and insulator 12 are directly combined to form a single space for the vapour produced under pressure by the arc to expand suddenly into when contact 9 leaves the chamber 1 in opening the circuit. An exhaust opening 13 is provided and may contain the devices for separating any liquid ejected from chamber 1 from the exhausting vapour.
