Abstract

467,746. Oil - break switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. Feb. 8, 1936, No. 3894. Convention date, Feb. 8, 1935. [Class 38 (v)] In a circuit-breaker of the kind in which a differential piston actuated by the pressure generated by the arc forces a stream of extinguishing liquid in contact with the arc, the stationary contact 1 is enclosed in a compartment 41 which is separated from the chambers 12, 13 bounded by the differential piston 11 by an insulating partition 42 provided with an opening 43 for the passage of the movable contact 15. The latter is provided with a bore terminating in the chamber 12, and on separating the contacts the pressure generated by the arc in the chamber 41 is transmitted through the movable contact and apertures 16 to the chamber 12. As soon as the movable contact has moved above the aperture 43, the piston forces a stream of liquid from the chamber 13 through the aperture. The contact 15 passes through an aperture 14 in the piston, and if the arc still persists when the tip of the contact reaches this aperture, a further extinguishing action is obtained by a stream of liquid passing from the chamber 13 to the chamber 12 through the aperture 14. The movable contact is operated through a rod 35 and lever 34, and is guided by a pin 32 screwed into the cap 5 of the extinguishing chamber. Spring-controlled valves 18, 24 are provided to relieve excess pressures in the chambers 12 and 41.
